Summer is in full swing and even though it looks a little different this year – with a bit of creativity and planning, you can still make things special! A classic picnic is an fun and easy way to spend a little quality time with your love or your besties. I'm sharing my picnic essentials and this easy DIY cutlery holder that can be made with some scrap fabric or even tea towels. I'm all about keeping things simple and easy… but I also like things to be pretty! I like to think of it like setting an outdoor table. You can still have elegant touches while keeping your picnic both practical and portable.

Sure, you could just pack everything up in a bag or bin, but a picnic basket is so much more fun! I picked up this vintage one at a market a couple of years ago. It also doubles as pretty summer decor.

A pretty blanket to sit on or cover up with if it gets cool is practical but also a way to share your personal style. Whether it's something neutral and classic like this one or more bold and colorful, it's a way to incorporate your unique style.

My favorite way to picnic always starts with wine, bread, and cheese. (Sometimes that's the whole picnic lol!) During the summer, rosé is especially nice with a rustic loaf of French bread and some brie or spreadable Boursin cheese. You can easily pack a salad, some fruit, and sliced meats as well.

If you're picnicking in the backyard, some simple blooms in a mason jar will give a nice touch or even better, pick some straight from the garden. If you're packing it to go, tuck a small potted plant or a bunch of fresh herbs in your basket.

DIY CUTLERY HOLDER

These cute cutlery holders are so pretty and fun and can be customized to match your blanket or your mood!

Materials:

  1. Enough fabric for as many holders as you want to make. For this project, I used one tea towel to make two holders.

  2. Fabric interfacing (you'll want one that's fairly stiff)

  3. Sewing machine

Directions:

  1. Measure and cut interfacing into a rectangular shape. I made mine approximately 4 1/2 inches by 10 inches. This will be the base of your holder.

  2. Cut your fabric into a long strip (just slightly wider than your interfacing and a bit more than twice as long.

  3. With your sewing machine, stitch both long edges so that they look "finished".

  4. Lay your interfacing on top of your fabric and fold the fabric around and over, creating the pocket in the center.

  5. Stitch both sides again to hold everything together.

These cutlery holders work well for a picnic or an outdoor tablescape.

So, grab your love or your bestie and get together for an afternoon or evening outdoors. Enjoy!
