Happy New Year! I’m so excited to be joining ILHSV as a Lifestylist Contributor for 2020! One of my favourite things about the New Year is getting my desk organized for the year ahead. I like creating a space that’s both beautiful and functional and surrounding myself with items that I love.  As we enter not just a new year but a new decade, it’s the perfect time to get your desk in order and personalize it with décor that inspires you every time you sit down. Follow along as I share my Desk Styling Faves with Kyla!

Lighting and Candles:

Good lighting is important especially during the darker days of winter! Choose a decorative lamp that suits the overall feel of your desk space or office.  A gold base and white shade is always a classic look. For more interest, try a ceramic base and add a textured or coloured shade. If you have a larger desk, try two matching lamps, one on either side.

Lamps I love:

A pretty candle is a must-have on my desk!  It adds a cozy warm glow and a luxurious scent that is the perfect mood lifter for those post-holiday blues. My preferred scents are usually floral or herbal but it’s always fun to try something new!  Make sure the candle you choose is all natural and clean burning and don’t forget to trim the wick for a longer lasting candle.

Favourite Mug:

Match your mug to your décor! Look for one that looks great on your desk but is also large enough for your favourite drink and feels comfy to hold.  Maybe a water bottle or personalized drink cup is more your style?  Whatever you choose, remember it’s the little details that personalize your work space so have fun with it!

Agenda:

Yay! I love getting a new agenda! Even though I use my phone for day to day scheduling, I use my agenda for weekly and monthly planning at a glance.  It’s a great way to goal set and prioritize important events.  When I’m organized I feel more calm and as a result, I’m more productive too.  I also love how pretty it looks on my desk.

Flowers:

You all know I love fresh flowers in my home and adding a small arrangement to my desk just makes me happy!  You can choose a custom arrangement like this one, create your own with fresh cut flowers from the grocery store or add a potted plant like a delicate fern or succulent. For a fuss-free option, choose a faux plant or flower arrangement instead.

Art

Personalize your desk space by adding framed art on the wall or a small print on your desk.  I especially like having motivational themed art to keep the positive vibes going strong! You can purchase ready-made art or create your own using custom prints and frames. Also, prints can be switched out easily when you’re in need of a fresh new look.

Tray

A tray is a great way to keep things organized or showcase decorative items on your desk. It gives structure to your work surface where you can store your laptop, books/magazines/mail or display some of your favorite accessories. Think tape dispenser, stapler, scissors or a pretty vase.
